#3 Women’s Tennis Continues Puerto Rico Trip with Win over D-I Bryant

The third-ranked Emory University women's tennis team continued to play well during its spring break trip to Puerto Rico, as the Eagles defeated Division I Bryant University 6-1 on Thursday.

The win brings Emory's record to 6-2 on the campaign, while Bryant dropped to 6-3 on the season with the loss.  It was the Eagles' sixth-consecutive match victory, and the team's first over a Division I squad this season.

With Division I scoring rules in effect, the Eagles were able to come away with a point in doubles play by winning two of the three matches.  Emory received its doubles victories from Gabrielle Clark and Zahra Dawson, 8-1, in the first match, and from Malavika Padmanabhan and Brenna Kelly, 8-4, in the second.  The Eagles only doubles loss came from Jordan Wylie and Lauren Pinsky, who fell by a 8-4 score in the third contest.

Emory's success continued into the singles matches, where the Eagles won five of the six contests, including four in straight sets against the Division I competition.  At first singles, Dawson set the pace with a 6-3, 6-1 win, while Padmanabhan won 6-1, 6-1 in second singles.  Taylor Brandt earned a three-set, 6-2, 7-5, 10-8 triumph, while the match was rounded out with wins from Catharine Harris (6-3, 6-1) at fifth singles, and Allie Damico (6-2, 6-0) at sixth singles.  Emory's only loss came from Pinsky at fourth singles, where she fell 6-2, 5-7, 10-5.

The Eagles will return to Atlanta from Puerto Rico later this week, and will be back in action on Wednesday, March 21st, hosting Johns Hopkins University at the Woodruff P.E. Center.
