Fourth-Ranked Eagles Shutout #18 Sewanee

The Emory University women's tennis team picked up another win against a ranked Division III opponent on Thursday, as the fourth-ranked Eagles shutout the 18th-ranked University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.

During the win, senior Zahra Dawson claimed a 7-5, 6-3 win in the third singles match, moving her into a tie with former Eagle Megan Bern (1993-97) for third in school history in singles victories.  Dawson stands at 79-26 in singles matches during her Emory career.

Earlier in the match, the Eagles jumped out to a lead with wins in each of the three doubles matches.  Emory's top pairing of Dawson and sophomore Gabrielle Clark claimed an 8-1 win, while junior Jordan Wylie and sophomore Taylor Brandt earned an 8-4 win in the second doubles match.  Freshmen Danielle Truitt and Lauren Pinsky rounded out the early matches with an 8-5 third-doubles victory.

Besides Dawson, other singles victories came from Clark in the first match (6-0, 6-4), Wylie in the second match (6-2, 6-0), Brandt in the fourth contest (3-6, 6-3, 10-7), Pinsky in fifth singles (6-3, 6-4) and freshman Catharine Harris in the sixth match (6-0, 6-1).

Emory improved to 9-3 on the season with its ninth victory in the last 10 matches, while Sewanee dropped to 10-4 on the campaign.  The match was the Eagles' fourth-straight against a nationally-ranked Division III opponent.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, returning home to face 11th-ranked DePauw University.
