After completing all three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches, Emory University's match against the NCAA Division I University of Alabama – Birmingham was halted due to rain with the second-ranked Eagles leading 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon.
Playing by Division I scoring rules, the Eagles fell behind after dropping two of the three doubles contests to the Blazers. Emory's lone doubles win came from Brenna Kelly and Malavika Padmanabhan in the second match, as the duo claimed an 8-6 victory. Gabrielle Clark and Zahra Dawson suffered an 8-6 loss to Paula Alvarez and Isabel Fernandex in the first match, and Danielle Truitt and Jordan Wylie were dropped 8-5 in third doubles.
However, Emory would respond in singles play, claiming points in three of the four singles matches that finished. Dawson in second singles (6-4, 6-4) and Kelly in fifth singles (6-4, 6-2) each earned straight-set victories, while Catharine Harris earned a win by default in the sixth singles match. Padmanabhan, leading 7-5, 5-3, was on match point in third singles when play was stopped, while Clark split her first two sets in first singles, 4-6, 6-2.
While the team records will not be affected by play during Tuesday's match, completed singles and doubles contests will count towards individual's season records.
Emory will now turn its attention towards a big weekend trip, as the Eagles will play at seventh-ranked Middlebury College on Friday, third-ranked Amherst College on Sunday, and 12th-ranked Tufts University on Sunday.
