In a meeting of two of the top-three teams in the country, the second-ranked Emory Eagles bounced back from a loss yesterday by edging third-ranked Amherst College 5-4 on Saturday.

Emory took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, getting 8-5 wins from Gabrielle Clark and Zahra Dawson over Laura Danzing and Gabby Devlin in the first doubles match, and Brenna Kelly and Malavika Padmanabhan over Zoe Pangalos and Jennifer Newman in the second doubles match.  Jordan Wylie and Danielle Truitt suffered Emory's only doubles loss, falling 8-4 to Caroline Richman and Safi Aly in third doubles.

Clark started the Eagles off strong in singles play, winning the first match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0 over Danzig.  However, Wylie fell to Newman 6-2, 6-2 in second singles, bringing match score to 3-2.

Emory would respond quickly though, with a pair of straight-set wins to clinch the match.  In fourth singles, Padmanabhan claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Pangalos, and Kelly secured the victory with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Aly in the fifth singles contest.  Emory would drop the remaining two singles contests, as Dawson fell to Richman 6-3, 7-6 (6) in third singles, and Lauren Pinsky dropped a 5-7, 6-1, 10-8 sixth singles match to Kimberly Snyder, but hold on for the team victory.

The Eagles are now 11-4 on the campaign, while Amherst dropped to 8-3 for the season.  Emory will wrap-up its three game Northeast trip with a match at 13^th-ranked Tufts University at 10:30 AM on Sunday.
