No. 2 Eagles Wrap Up Road Swing with Win over #13 Tufts

Emory University completed its weekend road trip with its second-straight win over a nationally-ranked opponents, defeating Tufts University 7-2 in Medford, Massachusetts on Sunday afternoon.

Emory claimed two of its three matches during the weekend, all against ranked Division III squads, to improve to 12-4 on the season.  Tufts dropped to 6-5 on the campaign with the loss.

Emory won the first two doubles matches in the contest, as Gabrielle Clark and Zahra Dawson defeated Sophie Schonfeld and Eliza Flynn 8-3 in first doubles, while Brenna Kelly and Malavika Padmanabhan won in second doubles, 8-6, over Lindsay Katz and Shelci Bowman.  Tufts salvaged a doubles point in the third match, as Janice Lam and Samantha Gann bested Jordan Wylie and Danielle Truitt 8-2, as the Eagles led 2-1 heading into singles play.

Emory's success continued into singles play, where the Eagles won five of the six matches.  The Eagles received 6-0, 6-1 wins from both Clark over Schonfeld in the first singles match and Wylie over Katz in second singles, while Dawson defeated Bowman 6-0, 6-2 in third singles.  After Padmanabhan suffered the only singles setback for the Eagles, a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Flynn in the fourth singles match, Kelly won 6-3, 6-1 over Gann in fifth singles, and Lauren Pinsky rounded out the match with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Lam in sixth singles.

The Eagles will return home to play Georgia Perimeter College at the Woodruff Physical Education Center on Thursday, April 19th at 3:00 PM.
