Eagles Sweep ITA Fall South Regional

Eagles Sweep ITA Fall South Regional

For the sixth-consecutive season, the Emory University women's tennis team won both draws at the USTA/ITA Fall South Regional, as junior Gabrielle Clark came away with the singles championship for the second-straight year, and teamed with freshman Emma Taylor to win the doubles draw.

Clark became just the second Eagle in the program's history to repeat as the champion in both draws, joining former Emory player Lorne McManigle, who did so in 2008 and 2009.

Clark and Taylor, the second-seeded pair in the doubles draw, defeated Sewanee's fourth-seeded pair of Anne Garland and Lindsey Liles  in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

Later in the day in the singles draw, both top-seeded Clark and senior captain and second-seed Jordan Wylie won their singles semifinal matches to set up an all-Emory final, with Clark beating Sewanee's Jenny Liles, the third-seeded player in the draw, and Wylie handling fourth-seeded Bronte Goodhue, both by scores of 6-2, 6-1.  Clark would claim the victory over her teammate, 6-3, 6-2, to win the singles draw for the second-straight year, and marking the 11th-straight year and Eagle has come home with the singles title.

By virtue of winning the regional championships, Clark and Taylor will both advance to the ITA Small College Nationals in Mobile, Alabama, from October 11th – 14th.  The duo will also each earn all-America honors based on their fall performance.
