The Emory University women's tennis team advanced in both draws at the 2012 ITA Small College Nationals in Mobile, Alabama, as junior Gabrielle Clark won her first-round singles match, and later teamed with freshman Emma Taylor to earn a victory in the doubles draw as well.
Clark, the top-seeded player in the singles draw, defeated Megan Tang of the University of Chicago in straight sets 6-1, 6-0, improving to 8-1 in singles action overall during the fall. Clark will face fourth-seeded Meghan Buell of Washington and Lee University on Friday at 8:30 AM CT in the semifinal round.
Both of the seeded players advanced on the other side of the draw as well, setting up a semifinal between second-seeded Lok-Sze Leung of Middlebury and third-seeded Brittini Fausett of Mary-Hardin Baylor on Friday. The winners of the two semifinal matches will face each other for the Division III Championship on Saturday at 8:30 AM CT.
Also seeded first in the doubles draw, Clark and Taylor cruised to a straight-set victory over their first-round opponents, Meg Crowley and Claire Marshall of DePauw University, 6-3, 6-4. The Eagles advanced to the semifinals, to be played on Friday at 1:00 PM CT.
Emory will continue play from the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center on Friday, in addition to opening play at the Duckworth Fall Classic in Clemson, SC. Results and a recap from both events will be posted to EmoryAthletics.com following the completion of competition.
