The fourth-ranked Emory University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to the NCAA Division I University of Alabama – Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama on Sunday afternoon.
Emory's lone point in the match came from sixth singles, where freshman Madison Gordon defeated her counterpart in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
The Eagles were also leading in first doubles, with junior Gabrielle Clark and freshman Annette Sullivan holding a 6-4 advantage, but with Division I rules in effect, play in the match was stopped after the Blazers won the other two matches, giving UAB the lone doubles point.
Emory's Beatrice Rosen also came close to scoring an additional match for the Eagles, dropping a hard-fought three-set decision to her Division I opponent at third singles, 6-4, 5-7, 10-8.
Emory now stands at 3-2 on the season, while UAB improved to 8-3. The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday, March 7th at 3:00 PM at Brenau University.
