The Emory University women's tennis team bounced right back from its loss on Sunday, putting together a string of strong performances to defeat Brenau University 7-2 in Gainesville, Georgia on Thursday afternoon.
With the win, Emory improved to 4-2 on the season, while Brenau, an NAIA team, dropped to 6-1 on the year with the loss. It was the first road win of the spring for the Eagles.
Emory picked up wins in the top-two doubles matches, with junior Gabrielle Clark and freshman Annette Sullivan defeating Maria Perdomo Medina and Eline Nagels 8-3 in the first contest, and freshman Madison Gordon and senior Jordan Wylie winning 8-4 over Dominika Jasova and Zalina Nazarova in the second doubles match. Emory's only doubles loss came in the third match, where junior Brenna Kelly and freshman Beatrice Rosen fell 8-5 to Brenau's Vladica Djurdjevic and Stephanie Moniz.
The Eagles continued to succeed in singles action, with wins in five of the six matches. At second singles, Wylie defeated Djurdjevic 6-0, 6-3, while Rosen claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Perdomo Medina at third singles. Kelly added a 6-4, 6-1 win over Nazarova at fourth singles, while Gordon earned a fifth singles victory, 7-6 (4), 6-1 over Nagels. Sullivan rounded out the Eagles' singles success with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Sophie van Beijnum at sixth singles.
The Eagles' only setback in singles action came from the first match, where Clark was defeated 7-5, 6-4 by Jasova.
The Eagles will be back in action next week during their spring break trip to Hawai'i, facing Hawai'i Hilo on Thursday, March 14th at 7:30 PM ET, and Hawai'i Pacific at 4:30 PM ET on Friday, March 15th.
