Eagles Assure All-Emory Finals at ITA Regionals

After two days of competition at the USTA/ITA Fall South Regional Championships in Sewanee, Tennesse, only Eagles remain standing, with all four singles semifinalists and both final doubles pairings representing Emory University.

In the singles draw, top-seeded Beatrice Rosen was perfect on the day, recording 6-0, 6-0 wins in both the round of 16 and the quarterfinals.  She will face sixth-seeded Melissa Goodman in Sunday's semifinal, after the freshman upset third-seeded Deena Li Kam Wa in the quarterfinals, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6.

On the other side of the draw, second-seeded freshman Michelle Satterfield claimed a victories over teammate Bruna Correa (6-2, 6-1) and Sewanee's Annie Veron (6-2, 6-2) to reach the semifinals.  She will be taking on fifth seeded sophomore Madison Gordon, whose Saturday wins included a 6-1, 6-1 upset win over fourth-seeded Lindsey Liles of Sewanee.

The winners of the two semifinal matches will face each other for the championship later in the day on Sunday.

The doubles final will also be contest on Sunday, pitting the top-seeded pair of senior Brenna Kelly and Goodman against the second-seeded duo of junior Rebecca Siegler and Satterfield.  Kelly and Goodman reached the finals with an 8-1 win over the duo of Herrera and Cadle of Oglethorpe in quarterfinals, followed by an 8-2 win against Liles and Vernon of Sewanee.  The route to the finals for Siegler and Satterfield included a pair of wins over teammates, with the duo defeating Correa and junior Danielle Truitt 8-2, and Rosen and sophomore Stephanie Loutsenko 8-6.

Winners of Sunday's championships will advance to the USTA/ITA Small College National Championships in Fort Meyers, Florida in October.
