Eagles Extend Perfect Start with Pair of Sunday Wins

The second-ranked Emory University Women's Tennis Team improved to 10-0 in 2014 with two more home victories on Sunday, as the Eagles defeated Millsaps College 8-1 and Georgia Perimeter College 6-3 at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.

Against Millsaps, Emory earned wins in all three doubles matches, with senior Gabrielle Clark and sophomore Madison Gordon claiming an 8-2 victory at first doubles, senior Brenna Kelly and freshman Michelle Satterfield winning 8-0 at second doubles, and freshman Bruna Correa and junior Danielle Truitt earning an 8-1 win at third doubles.

The Eagles would go on to win five of the six singles matches, with victories from junior Catharine Harris at second singles (6-2, 6-1), sophomore Stephanie Loutsenko at third singles (6-1, 6-0), sophomore Marissa Levine at fourth singles (6-0, 6-1), freshman Michelle DeMeo at fifth singles (6-0, 6-0) and junior Allie Damico at sixth singles (6-2, 6-1).  The lone loss in the match for the Eagles came in a three-set battle at first singles, where Satterfield fell to Deena Li Kam Wa, 6-4, 1-6, 10-5.

The loss was the first of the season for Millsaps, as the Majors fell to 5-1 for the campaign.

Later in the day, Emory took two of the three doubles matches from Georgia Perimeter College, a Junior College program, with Kelly and Satterfield winning 8-4 at second doubles and sophomore Beatrice Rosen and Loutsenko winning 8-3 at third doubles.

The Eagles would clinch the team victory with wins in the final four singles matches, as freshman Melissa Goodman winning 6-1, 6-2 at third singles, Gordon claiming a 6-1, 6-2 victory at fourth singles, freshman Katarina Su earning a 6-0, 6-0 fifth singles win, and Correa finishing off the day with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at sixth singles.

The loss was the first of the season for Georgia Perimeter, which fell to 3-1 on the campaign.

Emory will play another home doubleheader on Tuesday, March 4th against Christopher Newport University at 4:00 PM and Agnes Scott College at 7:00 PM.
