#2 Women’s Tennis to Face NAIA #1 Georgia Gwinnett

The second-ranked Emory University Women's Tennis Team will play Georgia Gwinnett College, the top-ranked team in the NAIA, in a rematch from earlier this season, on Monday, April 21st at 3:30 PM in Lawrenceville, GA.

The Eagles won the first meeting between the two teams on February 25th at the Woodruff P.E. Center, 7-2.  In the match, Emory won two of the three doubles contests and five of the six singles matches.  Doubles wins in the match for Emory came from the pairings of junior Rebecca Siegler and sophomore Madison Gordon, and senior Brenna Kelly and freshman Michelle Satterfield, at second and third doubles, respectively.  Winning singles contests were sophomore Beatrice Rosen at second singles, Satterfield at third singles, freshman Melissa Goodman at fourth singles, Gordon at fifth singles and Su at sixth singles.

The loss was one of just two this season for the Grizzles, who stand at 13-2 overall this year, including a 5-0 mark in home matches.  Georgia Gwinnett top singles player Valeria Podda is ranked third among all NAIA players in the latest ITA Tennis National Poll, while Judith van Fraaijenhoven is ranked 21st, and Paloma Cortina 24th.  In addition, the doubles pairing of Podda and Helena Karompis is ranked second in the NAIA.

Emory will enter the match on a seven-contest winning streak that has pushed the team's record to 19-2 for the campaign.  The Eagles are 8-2 in all matches away from the Woodruff P.E. Center this season, and 5-2 in true road contests.

Results and a recap of the match will be posted to EmoryAthletics.com at the completion of competition.
