Emory Sweeps UAA Women’s Tennis Honors

Emory University Gabrielle Clark was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Most Valuable Player for the third time in her career, freshman Michelle Satterfield was selected as the conference's Rookie of the Year, and Amy Bryant and Christy Striplin-Lynch received the Association Coaching Staff of the Year award, as announced by the UAA on Thursday morning.

In addition, Clark, sophomore Beatrice Rosen, Satterfield, freshman Melissa Goodman, sophomore Madison Gordon and freshman Katarina Su each earned all-conference recognition for their singles efforts, while the pairings of Clark and Satterfield and senior Brenna Kelly and Su were honored for their doubles play.

Clark went undefeated as both Emory's first singles and doubles (along with Satterfield) competitor, en route to becoming just the second player in conference history to earn Most Valuable Player honors on three or more occasions, joining former Eagle Mary Ellen Gordon, who claimed the honor four times form 2001-04.  It also marked the third time in her career she has earned first team honors for her play at first singles, and the second time she has earned first team recognition for first doubles.

Satterfield became the fifth Eagle to be named UAA Rookie of the Year and the second-straight, after Rosen claimed the award last year.  In addition to her 3-0 record with Clark at first doubles during the tournament, she was 3-0 in singles play, earning all-UAA First Team honors for third singles.

The Coaching Staff of the Year honor was the 20th claimed by an Eagles' staff in the program's history, and the 10th of Bryant's career, who received the award for the second-straight year.

Rosen (2-0) and Gordon (3-0) each earned all-UAA First Team in second and fifth singles, respectively, for the second consecutive year.  Goodman (fourth singles) and Su (sixth singles) earned their first career all-conference singles honors, while Kelly claimed her third career honor for her play at third doubles, along with Su.

The Eagles claimed their 25th Association title in 27 years of conference competition at the 2014 UAA Championships in Altamonte Springs, Florida, winning matches against New York University (9-0), the 12th-ranked University of Chicago (9-0) and eighth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University (8-1), en route to the title.

By virtue of winning the UAA Championships, the Eagles clinched an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championships.  Emory will now await the announcement of the NCAA Championship draw and early-round host sites, set to be released on NCAA.com at 7:00 PM on Monday, May 5th.
