Women's Tennis Breezes Past Division II Columbus State for Fourth Straight Win

The #2 Emory University women's tennis program ran its match win streak to four on Wednesday evening, defeating the #8 Division II program Columbus State 7-2. With the win, the Eagles improved to 7-1 while the Lady Cougars dropped to 5-2.

Emory began the match by taking two of the three doubles points. Sophomores Bridget Harding and Anna Fuhr knocked off the #11-ranked doubles duo in DII, Tobar/Utech, in quick fashion 8-1 to hand them their first defeat on the year. Junior Katarina Su and freshman Daniela Lopez claimed the other doubles point at the third doubles position 8-3.

The Eagles then took five of the six singles matches, all in straight sets. Harding had a 6-3, 6-3 triumph for the no.1 singles point over the #14-ranked Beatriz Leon. Junior Michelle Satterfield earned a 6-4, 6-4 decision in no.2 singles while freshman Taylor Cosme knocked off the #50-ranked player in Division II 6-3, 6-4. Senior Beatrice Rosen had by far the most impressive win, dropping just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory at no.4 singles. Senior Madison Gordon earned the other singles point at the no.6 position, 7-5, 6-3.

Emory will now embark on a three-match road trip all against Division I opponents. On Saturday, the Eagles will face Appalachian State before taking on Northern Arizona and Montana State on March 5th.
