#1 Eagles to Host #1 Georgia Gwinnett in Regular Season Finale

The Emory University women's tennis team wraps up the 2016 regular season this Sunday with a home match against NAIA-program Georgia Gwinnett College. The match is set to begin at noon on the WoodPEC Outdoor Tennis Courts.

It will be a meeting between top-ranked teams as the Eagles stayed in the top spot for third straight ITA National Poll released on Thursday evening and the Grizzles reclaimed the top spot in this week's ITA NAIA National rankings, moving up from the second spot.

The Eagles are coming off their fourth consecutive and 27th University Athletic Association championship in program history, defeating 12th-ranked Washington University 7-2 in the title match. Five Emory players secured All-UAA honors led by senior Madison Gordon who made her fourth career All-UAA First Team and classmate Beatrice Rosen and junior Michelle Satterfield who each made their third All-UAA First Team.

Emory's projected lineup on Sunday will feature two players ranked in ITA Atlantic South Singles Top-10 with sophomore Bridget Harding ranked third and Satterfield coming into play in the seventh spot. In the regional doubles rankings, the Eagles occupy two of the top six positions with freshman Daniela Lopez and sophomore Anna Fuhr ranked third and Harding and junior Katarina Su in the sixth spot.

The Grizzlies' lineup has four individuals in the latest Top 25 of the ITA NAIA National Rankings with Valeria Podda entering the weekend as the top-ranked singles player in the NAIA. Klara Dohnalova comes in at the No. 16 spot while Alyona Vasileva (No. 29) and Sophie Feller (No. 50) round out the GGC representation.  Georgia Gwinnett also has two doubles duos represented as the pairs of Podda/Feller and Vasileva/Chiara Di Salvo are first and third, respectively, in the latest national poll.

The two programs met earlier this season on February 17th with Emory earning the 6-3 victory in Gwinnett. The Eagles took five of the six singles points in the match and Satterfield and Lopez pairing up to claim the lone doubles point for Emory, winning 8-4 in the no.3 doubles match. The Eagles are a perfect 4-0 in the all-time series dating back to 2014.
