No.-1 Emory Women's Tennis Gears Up for Four Matches in Five Days

The No.-1 ranked Emory University Women's Tennis team is set to square off against four members ranked inside the ITA National Top-25 over a five day period before the University Athletic Association Championships begin next week in Orlando, FL.

The Eagles first head to Massachusetts for three consecutive matches over the weekend against No.-7 Tufts on Friday, No.-21 MIT on Saturday and No.-6 Wesleyan at Tufts on Sunday before heading home to face No.-11 Washington and Lee next Tuesday at the Woodruff PE Center.

Prior to the start of the match with the Generals at 4:30 PM, Emory will recognize its five member senior class: Paula Castro, Michelle DeMeo, Melissa Goodman, Michelle Satterfield and Katarina Su with a special pre-match ceremony.

The Eagles are coming off a 9-0 sweep over Sewanee University on April 7th to improve to 7-4 on the season, 5-0 against Division III opponents. Satterfield and sophomore Daniela Lopez have rattled off six wins in a row at second doubles to climb to 13-4. At first doubles, Su and junior Bridget Harding reached the 20-win for the second straight season, entering play 20-5 overall. Su and Satterfield have moved up on the all-time Emory doubles ranks as both players currently sit inside the top-8. Su is positioned seventh with 88 career doubles wins with Satterfield in the eighth spot with 85.

In singles, the Eagles are 103-51 overall and 44-22 in dual matches, good for a .667 winning percentage. Harding and Lopez lead the charge with 21 and 17 victories, respectively, while Satterfield (15) and Su (14) have chipped in with 29 wins. Satterfield moved into a tie for sixth place all-time on the Emory list with her 81st career singles win against the Tigers on Friday. Su joins her in the top-10, checking in tied for 10th place all-time with 77 with Harding also among the leaders, tied for 16th in program history with 72 career singles wins.

Tufts owns a 9-2 overall record in the spring and are fresh off a 7-2 victory over MIT on Tuesday. Friday will be the sixth meeting in the series and the first since 2013. The Eagles have three straight over the Jumbos and lead the all-time series 4-1.

MIT has lost four consecutive matches including back-to-back losses to Tufts and Wesleyan to drop to 11-5 on the season. Saturday marks just the second meeting ever between the two programs with Emory winning the previous meeting, 6-3, back in October of 1991.

Wesleyan recorded an 8-1 victory over Trinity (Conn.) its last time taking to the courts on Wednesday afternoon, moving to 7-1 on the campaign with the lone defeat coming against Williams College on April 9th. Emory and the Cardinals have met just once previously in 2008 with the Eagles earning a 9-0 win.

Washington and Lee will carry a 16-3 record as play gets underway on Tuesday, having won six of its last seven including a pair of wins over Lynchburg and Randolph-Macon its last time out on April 4th. Tuesday will represent the 30th meeting between the two schools with the Eagles holding a 21-8 edge over the Generals. Emory has won nine straight in the series including a 5-0 victory last year in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
