No.-6 Wesleyan Wins Top-10 Matchup over No.-1 Emory Women's Tennis, 5-4

The No.-1 ranked Emory University Women's Tennis team saw its three-match winning streak snapped Sunday morning, falling to No.-6 Wesleyan University, 5-4, at Tufts University in Medford, MA. The Eagles slip to 9-5 overall following the defeat with the Cardinals improving to 8-2.

Senior Michelle Satterfield and sophomore Daniela Lopez collected Emory's lone point in doubles as the duo won their ninth consecutive match, defeating Ashli Budhiraja and Julia Kim, 8-2, on court two.

In singles, Wesleyan claimed victories on the first three courts with the Eagles winning on courts four, five and six to provide the 5-4 final margin. All six matches were decided in straight sets.

Senior Katarina Su won her fourth straight match and 17th out of 22 decisions on the season, topping Helen Klass-Warch, 6-0, 6-2 at fourth singles. The win was Su's 80th of her career, becoming just the eighth player in program history to win at least 80 singles matches.

Classmate Paula Castro also recorded her fourth win in a row as she bested Dasha Dubinsky, 6-0, 6-3 at sixth singles. Fellow senior Melissa Goodman added a victory at fifth singles, improving to 14-9 on the year, with the 6-1, 6-4 decision over Nicole McCann.

"Wesleyan played us exactly right today," Head Coach Amy Bryant stated after the match. "We've got some things to work on to prepare us for the remainder of the season."

The Eagles look to rebound on Tuesday afternoon with a matchup against No.-13 Washington and Lee at the Woodruff PE Center, beginning at 4:30 PM. Prior to the start of the match, Emory will recognize its senior class: Su, Castro, Goodman, Michelle Satterfield and Michelle DeMeo with a pre-match ceremony.
