Eagles Swept in Saturday Doubleheader by Hendrix

The Emory University Baseball team suffered a pair of setbacks on Saturday, falling 11-4 in the early game of a doubleheader against Hendrix College, and dropping a 5-0 decision in the late contest at Chappell Park in Atlanta, Georgia.

The two wins raised Hendrix's record to 9-9 on the year, while the 10th-ranked Eagles dropped to 12-8 on the season with the two losses.  Emory has now dropped four-straight contests.

Emory jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first game on a first-inning RBI double from Philip Maldari and a third-inning RBI single from Dylan Eisner.  However, Hendrix went on to score 11 unanswered runs between the fourth and eighth innings, taking an 11-2 lead in the game.  Emory got two back in the ninth to cut the lead to 11-4, but it was too little too late for the Eagles.

Sophomore Jackson Weeg took the loss in the early game, falling to 5-1 on the season.  Will Nichol picked up the win for Hendrix, improving to 3-0.

Hendrix's Kyle Teachout spun a complete-game shutout in the second game, allowing just six hits and a walk in his nine innings of work, improving to 2-0 on the year with the win.  The game was scoreless in the sixth inning, when the Warriors broke through with an unearned two-out run off Emory starter Connor Dillman.  Hendrix went on to score four more runs off the Emory bullpen in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to secure the lead.

Eisner led the Eagles at the plate during the day, finishing the two games a combined five-for-eight with a double and an RBI.

The Eagles are scheduled to wrap-up their weekend tomorrow against DePauw University, weather permitting.  The first pitch is currently scheduled for 1:00 pm at Chappell Park on Sunday.
