Emory Golf To Host Spring Invitational

Emory Golf To Host Spring Invitational

The Emory University golf team returns to action on Monday and Tuesday (Apr. 7-8) when it hosts its Spring Invitational.  The 36-hole tournament will be held at the 6,860-yard, par-72 Druid Hills Golf Club.

14 schools will be vying for the team title including eight of the top 20 Division III teams in the latest Golf World/NIKE Golf Coaches' Poll.

No. 3-ranked Oglethorpe and No. 4 Guilford are among the top 10 squads in the hunt as are No. 7 Methodist University and No. 10 LaGrange College.  Other nationally ranked teams taking part include Transylvania (#11), Berry (#15), Rhodes (#16) and No. 18 Greensboro.

Oglethorpe took home first place in last year's Invitational, topping runner-up Methodist by seven strokes.  Emory posted an eighth-place showing out of 15 teams.

Emory will have two teams competing at the Invitational -- the Gold side comprised of Alec Berens, Will Roth, Johnathan Chen, Alex Wunderlich and Colby Hipp and a Blue unit made up of Sam Nichamin, Jonathan Gerrard, Vince Sirianni, Victor Tapia and Max Goodley.  Competing as individuals will be Luke Lancaster, Andrew Namkoong and Jack Williams.

In its most recent action, Emory finished 20th at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational (Mar. 14-16).  Chen led the Eagles' effort with a 54-hole score of six-over par 222 that placed him 22nd in the 150-player field.
