Emory Golf Opens 2019-20 At DIII Preview

Emory Golf Opens 2019-20 At DIII Preview

The Emory University golf team opens the fall portion of its 2019-20 schedule on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 14-15) at the NCAA D-III Preview.  The 54-hole event will be played on the 6,900-yard, par-72 PGA National Resort Champions Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.  36 holes will be played on Saturday followed by the final 18 on Sunday.

The top seven teams ranked in the Bushnell Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll will be competing while 15 of the 18 squads taking part slotted among the Top 25.  The Eagles of Head Coach John Sjoberg hold down the No. 2 position behind defending D-III national champion Illinois Wesleyan.  Rounding out the top-five programs taking part at the Preview are No. 3 Huntingdon College, No. 4 Guilford and No. 5 Methodist.

Sjoberg starts his ninth year at the helm of the Emory program with a roster that features nine veterans from last year's team that posted the school's 22nd berth to the NCAA D-III Championships and that established a school seasonal record for scoring average.   Among those back in the fold is senior Matt Organisak, who has captured three straight PING Golf Second Team All-America nods. Named the University Athletic Association Co-Player of the Year, Organisak finished as the squad's top scorer with a
school season record average of 72.6 strokes over 24 rounds.  He chalked up team-leading 13 rounds of par or better and played his was to four top-five overall finishes during the year.  Honorable Mention All-American Logan Ryan begins his sophomore year looking for another big campaign.  Last season's Division III winner of the Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award, Ryan tied for second on the team and fourth on the program's all-time season chart with an average of 73.3 strokes over 24 rounds. Picked as the UAA's Rookie of the Year, Ryan totaled eight rounds of par or better. Junior Eric Yiu claimed a spot on the PING Golf Honorable Mention All-America Team after tying for the No. 2 spot on the squad in scoring average (73.3 spg). A First Team All-UAA performer, Yiu was second on the team with 11 rounds of par or better. Senior Sam Galloway returns as regular member of last year's playing group.  Galloway competed in all nine tournament and averaged 74.91 strokes over 24 rounds of play en route to PING Golf All-South Region accolades.

Other returning players include sophomores Max Schwarz and Andrew DiPetrillo, seniors Vraj Patel and Leo Rich and junior Davis Hingtgen.

Two first-year players comprise the 11-member roster; freshmen Grant Drogosch (Windermere, FL) and Michael Rosenbloom (Wellesley, MA).

Competing for the Eagles at the D-III Preview will be:
Matt Organisak
Logan Ryan
Eric Yiu
Max Schwarz
Sam Galloway
