The Emory University men's golf team closed the fall portion of its schedule in fine fashion on Tuesday, tying for first place at the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial.  The 36-hole tourney was played on the 6,743-yard, par-71 The Cardinal by Pete Dye Course in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Starting in the No. 5 spot on the leader board heading into Tuesday's action, the Eagles carded a score of four-under 280 to finish with a final mark of seven-over par 575, tying them with Carnegie Mellon for the top spot out of 22 teams. While the Eagles and Tartans deadlocked for first, CMU prevailed in scorecard play (low aggregate of non-counting scores (151-153)).  Hampden-Sydney took home third place with a final tally of 578 (290-288) while Guilford and Rensselaer Polytechnic tied for fourth with a score of 581.

The story of the day for Emory was the effort of sophomore Logan Ryan who captured medalist honors after setting a program record for the lowest round, firing a six-under 65 that bettered the school's previous standard of 66 held by five different players. Ryan notched seven birdies on Tuesday, four on the back nine that saw him shoot a 32 in that stretch, while sustaining just one bogey en route to establishing the mark.  Ryan ended the Memorial in the No. 1 spot out of 120 players with a five-under showing of 137, tying him with Charles Raindre for the school's low score for a 36-hole tournament.  Raindre posted his score at the 2008 Gordin Classic. Ryan finished two shots ahead of Carnegie Mellon's Raymond Li.

Sophomore Max Schwarz was solid as well over the final 18 holes, checking in with a two-under par 69 that included five birdies and an eagle 3 on the 477-yard, par-5 10th hole. Seniors Matt Organisak and Sam Galloway each posted two-over 73 to round out the scoring.  Junior Eric Yiu turned in a 74.

For the tournament, Schwarz tied for fifth overall, earning all-tournament honors in the process, after shooting one-under 141 (72-69).  Yiu turned in a final score of 148 (74-74) that tied for 28th.  Organisak (77-73—150) and Galloway (79-73—152) tied for 48th and 63rd, respectively.

Emory puts the clubs away until Mar. 9-10, 2020, when it opens the spring campaign at The Tournament at Savannah Harbor.
