Men's Golf Finishes Day One Tied for First at Jekyll Island Collegiate

Through one round of play, the Emory University men's golf team is tied for first place at the Jekyll Island Collegiate at Jekyll Island, GA. The 54-hole event is being played over three days on the 6,551-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course at the Jekyll Island Golf Club.

The No. 1 ranked Eagles are tied for the lead with No. 6 ranked Carnegie Mellon with a score of 279. Emory has a tournament-leading 24 birdies and also leads the field with a combined score of -11 on Par-4 holes which leads everyone in the field by at least six strokes. Emory is tied for the lead in a field of 30 teams, 15 of which are ranked in the top 25 according to the GCAA Top 25 Poll. Sitting in third is No. 2 ranked Methodist who sits just a single stroke behind the Eagles and in fourth is unranked Rochester who reached the clubhouse with a 282 score for the day.

Senior Davis Hingtgen paced the Eagles in round one, putting up a score of 69 which sees him tied for fifth in the field of 150 golfers. Senior Logan Ryan, junior Jackson Klutznick and freshman Tony Li each carded a 70 in round one resulting in a tie for 13th place. Rounding out scoring for the Eagles was senior Max Schwarz who registered a 73 in round one. Cooper Hrabak of Methodist University leads the field with a five-under par 67.

The Eagles had three golfers compete as individuals: sophomore Michael Rosenbloom, freshman Michael Burry and freshman Josh Qian. Rosenbloom paced the individuals with a score of 74 which sees him in a tie for third while Burry (75) and Qian (76) posted solid days of their own.

The Eagles are back in action for the second round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate on the morning of Saturday, March 19th.
