The Emory University men's golf team opened their Spring season with a resounding success as they won the Savannah Invitational beating out some of the top competition in the nation. The tournament is being played on the 6,851-yard, par-72 Savannah Harbor golf course in Savannah, Georgia.
The No. 3 ranked Eagles pulled off the come from behind victory, they trailed the tournament leader by five strokes after the second round, to notch a three-round score of 880 (294-290-296) to win the invitational by seven strokes. No. 18 Huntingdon finished the tournament in the silver medalist position after carding a 303 in the final round and a 887 (293-291-303) total score. No.4 Piedmont rounded out the podium, logging an 888 (294-293-303) for the tournament. Emory finished the Savannah Invitational with the best score of all teams on par-4 holes logging a +22.
Sophomore Michael Burry recorded his first individual tournament win of his career, as he tied for the win with Piedmont's Fred Roberts IV, registering a third round score of 73 for a 54-hole total of 212 (69-70-73). Burry finished the tournament with the best score in the field on par-4 holes shooting -5 and he also shot an impressive five-under on par-5 holes. Freshman Brian Hanson had the best tournament of his young career finishing in an eighth place tie and second for the Eagles with a three round score of 220 (75-69-76). Sophomore Nicholas Nautiyal matched Burry for the best third round score of the Eagles, logging a 73 to bring his tournament end total to 221 (76-72-73) for a 12th place finish. Nautiyal paced the Eagles for the tournament in birdies recording 12 total, the second best mark at the invitational. Sophomore Tony Li turned in another solid performance as he posted a 54-hole total of 227 (74-79-74) to finish knotted up in 30th place. Sophomore Josh Qian rounded out scoring for the Eagles as his three round total came out to 239 (79-81-79).
The Eagles are back in action this weekend for the UAA Championships in Lady Lake, Florida as Emory looks to repeat as champions and win their 21st conference title in the program's history in the match-play format event.
