Men's Golf Falls in Heartbreaker at UAA Championship

Men's Golf Falls in Heartbreaker at UAA Championship

The Emory University men's golf team fell in heartbreaking fashion to the Carnegie Mellon Tartans by a score of 3-2 in the match play format UAA Championship final. The championship final was played on the 6,770-yard, par-72 Harbor Hills Country Club course in Lady Lake, Florida.

The No. 3 ranked Eagles narrowly fell to the Tartans losing 3-2 with two of Emory's losses coming down to the final hole. Sophomore Nicholas Nautiyal and junior Jackson Klutznick pulled out victories in the two and three spots while sophomore Tony Li and freshman Brian Hanson fell on the final hole of competition. By virtue of coming in second place the Eagles snap a five year streak of winning the UAA Championship. Below are the results from the match-play competition:

  1. Henry Scavone (C) defeated Tony Li (E)                 1UP

  2. Nicholas Nautiyal (E) defeated Brian Xu (C)            4&3

  3. Jackson Klutznick (E) defeated Andrew Wang (C)    2&1

  4. David Zhang (C) defeated Brian Hanson (E)            1UP

  5. Justin Chan (C) defeated Michael Burry (E)             2&1

Despite falling in the championship match, both Burry and Klutznick were named to the six-golfer UAA All-Tournament Team. This marks the first All-Tournament team selection for both Burry and Klutznick.

The Eagles are back in action next weekend for the three-day, 54-hole Oglethorpe Spring Invitational which will be taking place at Jekyll Island, Georgia with the first round set to begin on Friday morning.
