Men's Golf Leads Through One Round of Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational

Through one round of play at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational, the Emory University men's golf team sits in sole possession of first place with a three stroke lead and two rounds left to play. The tournament is being played on the 6,700-yard, par-72 Jekyll Island Golf Club/Pine Lakes course in Jekyll Island, Georgia.

The No. 3 ranked Eagles recorded a first round score of five-under par 283 as every Eagles golfer in competition shot par or better. Emory leads the competition with birdies having recorded 20 through 18-holes of play. In second place is No. 5 ranked Carnegie Mellon with a score of 286 as Emory looks to avenge their loss to the Tartans in the UAA Championship match. Rounding out the podium are No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and No. 14 Guilford who have each accumulated a score of 291 on the first day of play.

Leading the way for the Eagles are sophomore Michael Burry and freshman Brian Hanson who are knotted up for fourth place after the pair each scored a two-under par 70 on the first 18-holes. Burry has recorded the best score at the tournament on par-4 holes shooting three under while Hanson has registered the best score of the tournament on par-5 holes having shot four-under par on those holes thus far. Also in the top ten of scorers thus far is freshman Nicholas Nautiyal who is tied for tenth with a one-under par 71. Rounding out scoring for the Eagles are sophomore Tony Li and junior Jackson Klutznick who each hit par, tallying a 72 in the first round of play.

The Eagles return to the Greens tomorrow for the second round of action at the Jekyll Island Collegiate with the final round scheduled to begin on Sunday as Emory looks to record their fourth tournament win of the academic year.
