Men's Golf Extends Lead at Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational

The Emory University men's golf team stretched out its lead over the field of 30 teams at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational during the second round on Saturday. The tournament is being played on the 6,700-yard, par-72 Jekyll Island Golf Club/Pine Lakes course in Jekyll Island, Georgia.

The No. 3 ranked Eagles added six strokes to their lead as they shot an impressive 13-under par, 275 in the second round to bring their tournament total to 558 (283-275). Emory's second round score of 275 is the third best team round score in program history and the best round since October of 2018. Emory continues to lead the field with 40 birdies and now also leads the field in eagles having hit three across the tournament thus far. No. 5 Carnegie Mellon remains in second place after hitting a 281 in round two for a two-round total of 567 (286-281). No. 1 Christopher Newport rounds out the podium having carded a 36-hole total of 573 (292-281).

The trio of sophomore Michael Burry, junior Jackson Klutznick and sophomore Tony Li all logged a four-under par, 68 in the second round of play. Burry (70-68) is in second place with one round remaining while Klutznick (72-68) and Li (72-68) are each tied for third place. Sophomore Nicholas Nautiyal had a rock-solid day for the Eagles shooting a one-under par 71 as he is now tied for tenth with a two round total of 142 (71-71). Rounding out scoring for the Eagles was freshman Brian Hanson who notched a 73 in the second round which puts him in a tie for 14th place with a total score of 143 (70-73).

The Eagles are back in action for the final round of play at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational tomorrow as Emory looks to capture its fourth tournament title of the academic year.
