Men's Golf Tops Field at Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational

The Emory University men's golf team recorded their fourth tournament win and second of the Spring season at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The tournament was played on the 6,700-yard, par-72 Jekyll Island Golf Club/Pine Lakes course in Jekyll Island, Georgia.

The No. 3 ranked Eagles scored a 284 in the final round to bring their 54-hole total to 842 (283-275-284) which is tied for the second best three round score in program history and established a new Jekyll Island tournament record. Emory won by 15 strokes beating out a field of eight teams ranked in the top 25. The Eagles led the field of 30 teams with 58 birdies while also recording a tournament-high four Eagles. No. 5 Carnegie Mellon finished the tournament in second place amassing a total 857 (286-281-290) as the Eagles avenged their loss in the UAA Championship. No. 1 Christopher Newport rounded out the podium with a score of 862 (292-281-290).

Junior Jackson Klutznick and sophomore Tony Li led the team in scoring over the final 18 holes as they tied for a score of two-under par 70 as they each finished the tournament tied for third place. Klutznick (72-68-70) finished the tournament with the best score on par-5 holes (-10) while Li (72-68-70) finished with the best score in the field on par-4 holes (-5). Sophomore Michael Burry led Emory in scoring for the whole tournament as he carded a 209 for the tournament with a 209 (70-68-71) which placed him in second at tournament's end. Sophomore Nicholas Nautiyal tallied a third round score of 73 to bring his 54-hole total to 215 (71-71-73) which placed him in a tie for 14th. Rounding out scoring for the Eagles was freshman Brian Hanson whose three day total was a 220 (70-73-77) which tied him for 37th place. 

The Eagles are off for the next three weeks before returning to action on April 10th for the The Shoals Intercollegiate in Florence, Alabama.
