Men's Golf Lands Four on All-UAA Team; Burry Named Player of the Year

The Emory University men's golf team had four members recognized on the All-University Athletic Association Team as announced by the league office Wednesday morning.

Sophomore Michael Burry led a trio of Eagles on the First Team and was also tabbed as the conference's Player of the Year. Joining Burry on the First Team were junior Jackson Klutznick and sophomore Tony Li. Freshman Brian Hanson added All-UAA honors by earning a spot on the Second Team. Furthermore, Head Coach John Sjoberg and Assistant Coach Keenan Hickton took home Coaching Staff of the Year honors once again.

Burry has flourished in his second season with the Eagles, leading the team with a 72.2 scoring average across 23 rounds. Five times this season he finished as the team's leading scorer and won his first individual tournament at the Savannah Invitational with a three-round performance of 212 (69-70-73). His season low round came in the second round of Golfweek DIII Invitational where he carded a 67.

Klutznick makes his second straight appearance on the First Team following a strong spring of his junior campaign. For the season, he is averaging just a shade behind Burry at 72.8 and has led the Eagles in scoring over the final three tournaments, including taking home medalist honors at Emory's Spring Invitational on April 18 for the second straight year. He joined Burry on the All-UAA tournament team at the conference championships in early March.

After garnering Rookie of the Year honors in 2022, Li makes another appearance on the All-UAA Team only this time with First Team kudos. Li has settled into the Eagles' No. 3 position and heads into the NCAA Championships third on the team in scoring at 73.7. He shot a three-round low of 210 at the Jekyll Island Collegiate in mid-March, helping Emory smash the tournament record.

Hanson is one of two freshmen to be honored out of the 11 players to earn All-UAA honors, earning a spot on the Second Team. In his debut season, Hanson has turned in a three-round score of 220 on three separate occasions and is currently sitting at 74.9 per round. He's carded a personal-best round of 69 twice at the Savannah Invitational and then again at the Shoals Collegiate.

Emory, currently ranked No. 1 in the national rankings, heads into next week's NCAA Championships as the top overall seed in the field.
