Men's Track & Field Takes First at Thrills in the Hills Open

After a second place finish at the Emory Spring Break Classic, the Emory University men's track & field team continued its strong start to the spring with a first place finish this weekend at the Emory Thrills in the Hills Open. The Eagles prevailed over the field of 22 teams, posting a score of 152.50 to outpace second place finisher MIT by 28 points.

On the track, freshman Jackson Price was phenomenal for the Eagles, as he was a part of three winning events for the Eagles. On Friday, Price finished with a time of 21.48 in the 200m dash which is the sixth best time in program history and currently sits as the third best time in the nation according to TFRRS. Price followed that up with a first place finish in the 100m dash where his time of 10.52 seconds in the final set the program record for the second time on Saturday after his time of 10.62 in the preliminaries also established a new program record. Price capped off a spectacular weekend with his third first place finish as a part of the 4x400 relay team where he along with sophomore Dawit Dean, freshman Chris Belz and graduate student Liam Fost posted a time of 3:18.91.

In Fost's first competition since the DIII Indoor Track & Field Championships earlier this month, he picked up right where he left off earning a first place finish in the 400m dash crossing the finish line in 48.78 seconds. The 800m dash had an all Eagle top four as Dean finished with the fastest time of the bunch at 1:54.02.

Senior Spencer Moore, competing in the 3,000m steeplechase for the first time this season, crossed the finish line with a time of 9:19.22 which earned him a second place finish and is the third best time in the nation in the early stages of the season. Sophomore Scott Masterson recorded a new personal best time in the 1500m when he crossed the finish line in a time of 4:01.12 which was good for a first place finish and ten points for the Eagles. Freshman David Evans posted a time of 8:58.07 in the 3,000m run in his first meet of the season earning him a first place finish at the meet.

On the field, junior Michael Tiffin, competing in the hammer throw, posted a new personal record distance of 49.08m which is also the tenth best distance in program history. Junior David Gibbons, converting from a track athlete to a field athlete this year, recorded a distance of 52.20m in the javelin throw to finish in third place. Freshman Geoff Point-du-Jour's height of 1.80m in the high jump event earned the Eagles an additional three points on their way to their first place finish.

The Eagles are back in action next weekend for the UAB Spring Invitational in Birmingham, AL that is set to get underway the afternoon of Friday, April 1st.

Eagles honor their senior class on Saturday.
