The 2021-22 Emory University men's indoor track & field team had one of its best seasons in recent memory finishing the year with 13 USTFCCCA All-Region selections and seven All-UAA performances.
The Eagles had 13 student-athletes combine for 19 All-Region accolades which is the most Emory has received since the USTFCCCA started awarding All-Region in 2015-16. Graduate student Liam Fost, sophomore Spencer Watry and freshman Jackson Price led the Eagles at three All-Region honors apiece with Fost and Watry qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the 400m dash and the 800m run, respectively. Also earning All-Region acclaim for performances on the track were freshman Marcus Cheema in the 800m run, senior Spencer Moore in the 3,000m run, and freshman David Evans and senior Brett Lucas in the 5,000m run. The DMR team of seniors Jon Marcus and Jacob Hedgepeth as well as Fost and Watry earned an All-Region selection as did the 4x400 relay team of Fost, Price, freshman Chris Belz and sophomore Dawit Dean. On the field, senior Brett Henshey in the high jump and sophomore Kenya Sei in the weight throw garnered All-Region status for Emory.
In addition to the student-athletes success, Head Coach Linh Nguyen was named the USTFCCCA South/Southeast Coach of the Year which marks the first time he has ever won the regional coach of the year award for the men's program.
At the University Athletic Association Championships held in Cleveland, OH the team saw seven athletes earn All-UAA accolades in seven different events while the team finished with 74 points to come in fourth place which marks the teams highest finish since 2017.
Price led the team with three All-UAA honors with a first place performance in the 60m dash and a second place finish in the 200m dash. Price was also part of the 4x400 relay team along with teammates Fost, Dean and Belz who came in third place at the meet. Fost earned his second All-UAA honor in the 400m dash where he finished in first place. Senior Thomas Perretta earned his first ever All-UAA selection by finishing in third place in the 800m run.
On the field at the UAA Championships, Sei finished third in the hammer throw and Henshey tied for second in the high jump earning both of them an All-UAA nod.
For his efforts at the UAA Championships and throughout the season, Price was named the UAA Men's Rookie of the Year, the first Eagle to be awarded that honor since 2015.
The Eagles garnered two UAA Athlete of the Week selections for the 2021-22 season. Fost was named the UAA Athlete of the Week for his performance in the 400m dash at the BSC Icebreaker Meet where his time of 48.75 seconds became the sixth fastest in program history. Watry earned a UAA Athlete of the Week selection for breaking the program record in the mile with a time of 4:11.51 at the South Carolina Invitational.
Rounding out awards for the Eagles were the 25 student-athletes named to the UAA Winter All-Academic Team which was third most amongst winter sports. Highlighting that list were Fost and Moore who were also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for Cross Country/Track & Field which recognizes student-athletes for their combined athletic and academic accomplishments.
