Emory Men's Cross Country Team Posts Eighth-Place Finish At Griak Invitational

The 35th-ranked Emory men's cross country team continued its season this morning and turned in a solid effort at the 26th annual Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota.

Competing the in the Maroon Division III race, the Eagles came in eighth out of 32 teams.  Emory finished with 274 points, just one point shy of seventh-place Wartburg.  Taking home the top spot in the meet was No. 15 UW-Oshkosh with 69 points.  No. 8 UW-La Crosse finished runner-up with 85 points while No. 34 UW-Platteville was third with 104 points.  Hamline, ranked 19th nationally, UW-Eau Claire rounded out the top five with 138 points and 162 points, respectively.

Pacing the Emory pack was senior Geraint Davies with an 8k time of 26:42, good for 32nd place in the 331-runner field.  Sophomore Hank Ashforth crossed the finish line in 41st place with a showing of 26:50.  Senior Tim Halinski and sophomore Eddie Mulder brought home 60th and 62nd-place finishes, respectively, with times of 27:08.0 and 27:08.6.  Rounding out the team's scorers was sophomore Alex Fleischhacker with a time of 27:27.

Emory returns to action on October 8 when it competes at the JSU Foothills Invitational in Oxford, Alabama.
