Emory Men's Cross Country Announces 2011 Award Winners

The Emory University men's cross country team has announced the program's award winners for the 2011 season.

Senior Geraint Davies (Clarence, NY) was named the Most Valuable Runner after turning in a solid campaign, capped off by participating in the NCAA D-III Championships.  Davies finished among the top-five Emory finishers in all six meets he competed in and was the squad's top performer on four occasions including a ninth-place finish overall out of 174 runners at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships that enabled him to earn all-region acclaim.   Davies earned Second Team All-University Athletic Association honors after pacing the team and finishing 12th overall at the conference championships.

Sophomore Alex Fleischhacker (San Diego, CA) was tabbed as the Most Improved Runner Award after emerging as key contributors to this year's team.  Fleischhacker finished among the squad's top five runners in four of his six competitions and brought home all-region honors following a 32nd-place effort at the South/Southeast Regional Championships.

Junior Stephen Ellwood (Princeton Junction, NJ) received the Coach's Award, symbolic of dedication, leadership and inspiration.  Though he was slowed by various ailments during the fall, he managed to rank among the top-five Emory performers in all four of his competitions and was top three on three occasions.  The highlight of his season came at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships when he finished 10th overall out of 174 entries, good for a spot on the all-region team.

Sophomore Eddie Mulder (Pompano Beach, FL) was chosen as the Rookie of The Year after competing in six meets and placing among the team's top four finishers in each competition including team-leading efforts at the Sewanee Invitational and JSU Foothills Invitational.
