The Emory  men's and women's cross country teams posted second-place finishes out of four teams Saturday morning at the 37th annual Georgia State Invitational. The meet was held at Nash Farm Battlefield in Hampton, Ga.

The Emory men's side totaled 42 points, just two points behind top finisher Georgia State.  Clayton State was third with 49 points while SCAD-Atlanta rounded out the field with 97 points.  Junior Eddie Mulder was the Eagles' top runner, crossing the finish line in fourth place out of 37 entries with a 6K effort of 20:19.  Freshman Lukas Mees was the second Emory runner to score, finishing sixth overall with a time of 20:40.  Senior Stephen Ellwood clocked a 21:00, placing 10th in the field, while Hank Ashforth (21:14) and sophomore Cameron Wheeler (21:22) placed among the team's final two scorers, in  12th- and 13th-place, respectively.

The Eagle women chalked up 45 points, trailing only Georgia State who claimed first with 15 points.  Clayton State (78 pts.) and SCAD-Atlanta (115 pts.) closed out the field.   Running a 4K course, sophomore Tamara Surtees paced the Emory contingent and ranked seventh overall out of 44 runners with a time of 16:09.  Junior Emily Caesar came through with a ninth-place showing (16:15) with sophomore Marissa Gogniat (16:17), sophomore Hannah Moriarty (16:23),  freshman Aileen Rivell (16:25) and sophomore Elise Viox (16:26) taking home the tenth through 13th-place finishes.

Emory returns to action on Sept. 22 when it competes at the Gulf Coast Stampede in Pensacola, Florida.
