#3 Emory Sweeps Singles to Defeat #11 DePauw 7-2

The third-ranked Emory University Women's Tennis team claimed its third win of the season over a ranked NCAA Division III opponent, defeating 11th-ranked DePauw University at the Woodruff Physical Education Center on Friday evening.

The Eagles remained perfect with an 8-0 record against Division III competition this season, improving to 14-2 overall.  DePauw dropped to 11-3 with the loss, each of which has come against a nationally top-12 ranked team.

There was a delay of approximately an hour and a half before the start of the match, while the courts dried out after rain in Atlanta earlier in the day.  Once play began, Emory fell behind early in the match, despite an 8-5 win at first doubles from senior Gabrielle Clark and freshman Katarina Su.  The Tigers would claim victories in the other two doubles contests, winning 9-8 (5) at second doubles and 8-5 at third doubles.

It would be a different story in singles play, where the Eagles would clinch the team victory with wins in all six matches, including five in straight sets.  Clark earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at first singles, followed by a 6-2, 6-7 (3), 10-6 win at second singles from sophomore Beatrice Rosen.  Freshman Michelle Satterfield claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win at third singles, freshman Melissa Goodman won 6-1, 7-5 at fourth singles, sophomore Madison Gordon took a 6-1, 6-1 victory at fifth singles, and Su closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at sixth singles.

Emory will be back in action on Saturday, April 5th, hosting top-ranked Johns Hopkins University at 9:00 AM at the WoodPEC.  A match originally scheduled for Monday against Brenau has been postponed until Tuesday, April 15th.
