No.-1 Emory Women's Tennis Defeats Point Loma, 5-4

The No.-1 ranked Emory University Women's Tennis team won its fifth consecutive match on Saturday, defeating Point Loma University, 5-4, in San Diego, California.

Despite falling behind 2-1 after doubles, the Eagles secured victories in four of the six singles matches to improve to 5-3 on the season.

Senior Bridget Harding and freshman Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico notched the lone doubles win for the Eagles on the afternoon, topping PLU's Shelby Groeneveld and Nicole Camaratta 8-5. The win moved Harding one doubles win shy of joining 100-win club as she sits with 99 career doubles victories entering play on Sunday.

In singles, Gonzalez-Rico, sophomore Emma Perelman and freshman Stephanie Taylor notched three straight wins to put the Eagles in front 4-2. Gonzalez-Rico won her seventh straight match with a 6-2, 6-2 decision at first singles. At sixth singles, Perelman posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory and at third singles Taylor registered a 6-3, 6-3 win.

After a Point Loma win on court four, freshman Defne Olcay recorded the match point at fifth singles, besting Ellie Gamble in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.

The Eagles return to the courts on Sunday to battle No.-3 and undefeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. First serve is slated for 10:00 AM PST / 1:00 PM EST.
