#1 Eagles Trounce #14 Bowdoin, 8-1; Harding Notches 100th Career Singles Win

The No.-1 ranked Emory University Women's Tennis team returned to the courts on Friday afternoon, trouncing No.-14 ranked Bowdoin College, 8-1, in Brunswick, Maine.

With her 6-4, 6-1 win at second singles, senior Bridget Harding became just the third Eagle in program history to win 100 career singles matches, joining Mary Ellen Gordon (115) and Gabrielle Clark (108). She also became the third member of the program's 100-100 club, joining Gordon and Clark as the only players in Emory Women's Tennis history to win both 100 singles and 100 doubles matches in a career.

In addition to her win at second singles, Harding added a win at first doubles with freshman Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico, 8-4, as the pair won their 12th straight match of the spring. The Eagles added wins on both second and third doubles courts as senior Anna Fuhr and freshman Stephanie Taylor were victories on court two, 8-2, with junior Daniela Lopez and freshman Katie Chang posting an 8-4 win at third doubles.

In singles action, Emory recorded four more wins to go along with Harding's straight set victory. At first singles, Gonzalez-Rico battled back from losing the first set to record the 4-6, 6-4, 10-2 win. Taylor also had to come from behind to win at fourth singles as she defeated her opponent 6-7 (5), 6-3, 10-7. Lopez and freshman Defne Olcay registered straight set wins in both their matches with Lopez winning 6-2, 6-4 on court three and Olcay winning 6-3, 6-3 on court five.

The Eagles, sitting at 8-4 on the season, continue their three match weekend in Maine as Emory faces No.-8 Amherst College Saturday afternoon on the campus of Bowdoin College. Match start time is set for 2:30 PM.
