Annika Urban Wins First UAA Individual Title for Eagles Since 2001

The Emory University women's cross country team's Annika Urban became the Eagles first individual champion at the UAA Championships since 2001 with her performance in Hampton, GA on Saturday morning.

The No. 21 ranked Eagles turned in a fourth place finish out of eight teams at the conference championships for the second consecutive year registering 118 points in the 6k meet. No. 1 ranked Chicago won the conference crown recording a score of 36 while No.7 WashU (46 points) and No. 23 NYU (78 points) rounded out the podium. 

Urban continued her historic season, racing to first place with a time of 21:14.4 becoming the first Eagle since Sarah Byrd in 2001 to win the individual UAA title. This meet win marks her fifth consecutive win as she has won every meet she has competed in thus far this season. Urban's time of 21:14.4 paced the next closest runner by over 20 seconds as she earned her second consecutive All-UAA First Team selection.

Coming in second for the Eagles and in 27th overall was sophomore Helena Kummings who crossed the finish line in 23:05.2 and marked her highest finish as a member of the Eagles. Next to finish the race for Emory was freshman Luna McCauley who, competing in her first conference championships, turned in a 30th place result after registering a time of 23:13.3. Graduate student Claire Hu posted a time of 23:28.2 to finish 35th overall. Rounding out scoring for the Eagles was sophomore Jenna Daly who finished just behind Hu to come in 38th with a time of 23:33.2. 

Finishing in the reserve spots for the Eagles were sophomore Liesl Scherrer (23:39.9) and junior Lily Taylor (23:44.5) who finished back-to-back in 43rd and 44th place, respectively. Also racing were sophomore Michelle Mittaz (24:23.1, 62nd), senior Shana Fitzmaurice (24:50.5, 67th) and junior Lucy Hansen (26:21.4, 75th). 

The Eagles will continue their postseason run at the NCAA South Regional Championships in Newport News, VA On Saturday, November 12th.
