2010 Emory Baseball Athletes of the Week

    (Baseball) Emory University junior Mark Mazur led the Eagles to a 9-8 walk-off win over sixth-ranked Birmingham Southern College with the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth inning. With the score tied 8-8 with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Mazur drove a 1-2 pitch into left field to score the game-winning run.

    (Baseball) Emory University’s Patrick Riebsame led the Eagles with a .429 batting average during four games last week. Riebsame went six-for-14, also leading the team with four runs scored and a .556 on base percentage, while driving in three runs, and stealing a base as well.

    (Baseball) Emory University centerfielder Gabe Shivers hit .526 while leading the squad in runs batted in during five games last week. Shivers started all five games for Emory, going 10-for-19 with three doubles, four runs scored and seven RBIs, in addition to two stolen bases.

    (Baseball) Emory University junior Gabe Shivers hit .571 during four games last week, including a school-record six hits in one game. Shivers went six-for-six with four RBIs, three runs scored a double and two stolen bases during Emory’s 15-7 win over LaGrange College. Shivers is now hitting .365 this season with 24 runs and eight RBIs this season.

    (Baseball) Emory University shortstop Jonathan Reilly led all Eagles with a .625 batting average and 10 runs batted in during four games last week. Reilly finished the week 10-for-16 at the plate with three doubles and four runs scored.

    (Baseball) Emory University junior Andrew Cohn drove in three runs during Emory’s 7-5 loss to Denison University on Sunday. Cohn finished the game one-for-three with a two-run single and a pair of walks, including one with the bases loaded.

    (Baseball-Pitcher) Emory University senior pitcher Matthew Katten picked up two wins in as many starts for the Eagles during the University Athletic Association (UAA) Tournament last weekend. Katten combined to pitch 13 innings for the Eagles, going 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA and eight strikeouts, holding opponents to a .224 batting average.

    (Baseball-Hitter) Emory University senior Dan Molnar led all players in batting average, slugging percentage, on base percentage and walks at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Tournament last week. Molnar hit .583 (seven-for-12) with two doubles and a home run over five games, and also matched his own tournament record with nine walks. He also slugged 1.000 and had an on base percentage of .773 during the week.

    (Baseball-Pitcher) Emory University senior Matthew Katten pitched seven scoreless innings during Emory’s 11-0 win over York (Pa.) College on Saturday. Katten started the game for the Eagles, striking out two batters, while spreading out seven hits and two walks, to earn the victory.

    (Baseball-Hitter) Emory University senior Dan Molnar hit .500 and set the school’s career walks record during five Emory games last weekend. Molnar went eight-for 16 with three doubles, a home run, six RBIs and four runs scored. The right fielder also walked four times during the week, tying the Emory record with 116 career free passes.
