#6 Men’s Soccer to Open UAA Play at Wash U.

The sixth-ranked Emory University Men's Soccer team will aim to keep its winning streak alive this weekend, as the Eagles will open conference play against Washington University (Mo.) in St. Louis, Missouri on Sunday, October 5th at 12:00 PM ET.

Around the UAA
All eight University Athletic Association (UAA) teams will open conference play this weekend.  On Saturday, New York University (8-1-0) will host the University of Rochester (5-2-2) at 11:00 AM, and Carnegie Mellon University (6-3-0) will travel to the University of Chicago (6-4-0) at 12:00 PM.  In addition to the Emory-Wash U. game on Sunday, fourth-ranked Brandeis University (9-0-0) will host Case Western Reserve University (6-3-1) at 11:00 AM.

Emory Eagles
The Eagles, ranked sixth in the NSCAA poll, ninth in the D3Soccer.com poll and leading the way in the South Atlantic Region rankings, have won 10-straight games since a season-opening tie, remaining one of the 14 undefeated teams in Division III this season with a 10-0-1 overall record.  Including in the Eagles' season ledger is a mark of 6-0-0 in games away from the Woodruff P.E. Center, and a 3-0-0 mark in non-neutral road contests.  The Eagles are ranked 16th among Division III teams with a 0.52 goals-against average and 79th with 2.39 goals per game.  The team has outscored its opponents by a 26-6 margin this season (including a 16-2 edge in its last six games), and outshot opponents 196-119 (including an 85-42 advantage in shots on goal).

Emory's leading scorer this season has been junior Sebastian Hardington with six goals and 14 points on the campaign, including a Division III-best five game winning goals.  Sophomore Jason Andrejchak had added 14 points of his own in 2014 with four goals and six assists, while senior Dylan Price has 13 points on four goals and five assists.  The Eagles' defense has been led by co-captain center backs Matt Sherr and Noah Rosen, while junior goalkeeper Abe Hannigan is 9-0-1 with five shutouts, an 0.57 goals against average (30th in D-III) and an 0.842 save percentage (53rd in D-III).

Emory is led by Head Coach Sonny Travis, who has compiled a 100-32-10 record during his eight seasons with the Eagles.  For his 29-year career, which includes stints as the head coach at Centre College and Virginia Wesleyan College, he has a record of 394-124-45, and entered the campaign ranked 13th among active Division III coaches in victories and 17th among Division III coaches all-time with a .735 winning percentage.  Travis is assisted by Cory Greiner and goalkeeper coach Diarmuid McGuigan.

Washington U. Bears
Washington, unranked nationally but fifth in the Central Region, has won four of its last five games, and stands at 5-2-1 overall this season, including a 3-1-0 mark at home.  The Bears have fielded one of the top defenses in Division III this season, ranking 12th in Division III with a 0.49 team goals-against average and 10th with a 0.882 save percentage.  Offensively, the squad averages 1.13 goals per game (308th in DIII), despite outshooting teams 113-94, including a 39-34 advantage in shots on goal.  Washington has outscored opposing teams by a 9-4 margin in 2014.

Jack West has been the leading scorer for Washington this season with three goals and two assists for eight points.  Goalkeeper Daniel Geanon is ranked 11th in Division III with a 0.900 save percentage and 14th with a 0.40 goals-against average.

The Bears are under the leadership of Head Coach Joe Clark, who has a record of 202-90-38 during his 18 seasons with Washington, and a 407-164-68 mark over his 32-year career, which includes 14 years with St. Louis University.  He is assisted by Paul Anderson, Jack Fischer, Jeff Pomranka and Rock Rone.

Series History
Emory is 7-13-8 all-time against Washington, including a 3-8-3 record in games played in St. Louis.  The Eagles will be looking for their first win against the Bears since the 2008 season, going 0-3-2 in games since.

Last season, Emory tied Washington 1-1 at the Woodruff P.E. Center, with the Eagles outshooting the Bears 25-15 in the game, including a 9-5 edge in shots on goal.  Emory's lone goal in the game was scored in the 62nd minute by senior Carl Credle, off assists from Price and senior Jeffrey Cochran

As of Thursday, Emory's 10 wins are tied for the most in Division III this season, along with Messiah, Wheaton (Ill.) and Rutgers-Newark… Emory is one of just two program's in Division III with undefeated men's and women's soccer programs this season, along with Messiah… With the win on Wednesday, Emory has secured its 13th consecutive 10-win season, and is one win shy of matching its win total from each of the last two seasons… This is the fifth time in the program's history that the Eagles have gone undefeated through their first 11 games of the season… The team has qualified for the NCAA Championships in three of the previous four years that it has gone unbeaten through its first 11 games… The Eagles are 113-52-24 all-time in UAA games, good for a .661 winning percentage, and 43-39-12 all-time in conference road games (.521)… Sebastian Hardington is tied for 81st in Division III with six goals… His five game winning scores this season are two short of the program's single season record… Jason Andrejchak is 21st in Division III with six assists, while Dylan Price is 50th with five assists… As a team, Emory is ranked fifth with a 0.955 winning percentage, 20th with 23 assists, 23rd with an 0.857 save percentage, and 43rd with 26 goals.
