#6 Men’s Soccer to Host UAA Match against Chicago on Saturday

Emory University, ranked sixth in the latest NSCAA Division III Men's Soccer Poll, will be aiming for its 12th-straight win on Saturday, October 11th, when the team plays host to University Athletic Association (UAA) rival University of Chicago at 11:00 AM at the Woodruff Physical Education Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

UAA Update
Along with Emory, two other teams claimed wins during the opening weekend of UAA competition last week.  The Eagles were the lone road team to claim a victory, winning 2-1 in overtime against Washington (Mo.), while fourth-ranked Brandeis triumphed 1-0 on penalty kick goal in double-overtime against Case Western Reserve, and New York University bested Rochester 2-0 in a rain-soaked affair.  The remaining contest was a scoreless tie between Carnegie Mellon and host Chicago.

All eight conference teams will be back in action on Saturday.  In addition to Emory hosting Chicago, Washington (6-3-1) will be at Carnegie Mellon (6-3-1) at 11:00 AM, Case (6-4-2) will host NYU (10-1-0) at 11:00 AM, and Brandeis (11-0-0) will play at Rochester (5-3-2) at 1:00 PM.

Emory Eagles
After a pair of 2-1 overtime wins against Oglethorpe and Washington last week, the Eagles held tight at sixth in this week's NSCAA poll and first in the South Atlantic Region poll, while moving up two spots to seventh in the D3Soccer.com rankings to seventh.  Emory has won its last 11 games, improving to 11-0-1 overall, including a record of 4-0-1 at home this season.  The team began the week ranked 19th in Division III with a 0.56 goals-against average and 71st with an average of 2.33 goals per game this season, outscoring opponents 28-7 this year and outshooting the opposition 206-127, including a 90-45 edge in shots on goal.

Junior Sebastian Hardington leads all Eagles this season with six goals, and is tied with junior Jason Andrejchak (four goals and six assists) for the team lead with 14 points.  In addition, Hardington began the week in a five-way tie for the Division III lead with five game-winning goals.  Senior Dylan Price has contributed to the Eagles' attack with four goals and five assists for 13 points during the campaign.  Defensively, co-captains Matt Sherr and Noah Rosen have led an Emory backline that has six shutouts for the campaign, and goalkeeper Abe Hannigan is 10-0-1 on the year, ranking 29th in Division III with a .609 GAA and 64th with an .829 save percentage.

Emory is led by Head Coach Sonny Travis, who has compiled a 101-32-10 record during his eight seasons with the Eagles.  For his 29-year career, which includes stints as the head coach at Centre College and Virginia Wesleyan College, he has a record of 395-124-45, and entered the campaign ranked 13th among active Division III coaches in victories and 17th among Division III coaches all-time with a .735 winning percentage.  Travis is assisted by Cory Greiner and goalkeeper coach Diarmuid McGuigan.

Chicago Maroons
Chicago, ranked eighth in the NSCAA's Central Region poll, stands at 6-4-1 on the campaign, including a record of 2-2-0 on the road.  The Maroons have outscored opposing teams 25-14 this season, and began the week ranked 78th in Division III with 2.27 goals per game and 167th with a 1.23 goals-against average.  The team holds a 191-142 edge in shots over its opponents in 2014, including an 83-54 edge in shots on goal.

Chicago's leading scorers this season have been Kyle Kurfirst (six goals and one assist) and Brenton-Neal Desai (five goals and two assists), while Michael Choquette has added a team-high five assists this season.  Hill Bonin (4-1-1, 1.04 GAA, .788 save percentage) and Brett Wiesen (2-3-0, 1.50 GAA, .667 save percentage) have split time in goal for the Maroons this season.

The Maroons are under the leadership of Head Coach Mike Babst, who is now in his second year with the team, and has compiled a record of 15-10-1.  He is assisted by Pat Flinn and Jeff DeGroot.

Series History
Emory has won the last four games in the series, and stands at 19-6-2 all-time against Chicago, including a 9-3-1 record in matches played at the WoodPEC.  Last year, the Eagles claimed a 2-0 win over the Maroons, with Sebastian Hardington scoring a goal off a Jeffrey Cochran throw-in in the 38th minute, and Dylan Price adding an insurance score in the 75th minute.

Price has scored two goals and assisted on another in three career games against Chicago.  Credle has also added on a career goal against the Maroons, while Cochran has registered an assist in each of the last two meetings.

Emory Notes
Emory junior Jeffrey Cochran was named the UAA Offensive Athlete of the Week for Men's Soccer for the first time in his career, after assisting on three goals last week, two of which were game winners in overtime… Emory is now 3-0-1 in overtime games this season, with Sebastian Hardington registering a pair of 'golden goals,' and Matt Sherr collecting the other… Emory is 4-0-0 against teams that appeared in the most recent edition of the NSCAA's regional rankings, outscoring such opponents 9-4… Emory is one of 10 remaining undefeated teams in Division III, along with Brandeis, St. Norbert, Messiah, Kenyon, Franklin and Marshall, Wabash, SUNY Oneonta, Amherst and Salisbury… Hardington's five game-winning goals this season are two short of the program's single-season record, and his seven career game-winning goals are tied for the eighth-most in school history… Cochran's nine game-winning assists over his career are tied for the fourth-most in school history, and two behind the program record of 11, set by Patrick Carver… Emory is 114-52-24 all-time in UAA games, including a 70-13-12 mark in home conference contests (good for a .800 winning percentage)… Emory's current 11-game winning streak is tied for the second-longest streak in the program's history, and five shy of the program record… The Eagles' 14-game unbeaten streak, dating back to last season, is the third-longest streak in Emory history, and two games shy of the program record.
