Emory Men’s Soccer has Six Members Named All-UAA

After leading the team to a 13-3-2 overall record and a berth to the NCAA Division III Championships, six members of the 11th-ranked Emory University Men's Soccer team received all-University Athletic Association (UAA) honors, an announced by the conference on Thursday.

Emory junior center back Matt Sherr was named to the All-UAA First Team, while sophomore midfielder Scott Haley and junior forward Sebastian Hardington each earned a place on the second team.  Sophomore midfielder Jason Andrejchak, junior goalkeeper Abe Hannigan, and senior center back Noah Rosen were each named as honorable mentions to the all-UAA team.

This marked the second-straight first team berth for Sherr, while Hannigan was recognized by the UAA for the second time after earning a second team honor last year, and Andrejchak claimed his second-straight honorable mention.  Haley, Hardington and Rosen were each recognized by the UAA for the first time in their careers.

Sherr was a key player for an Emory defense that finished its seven UAA games with a 0.55 goals-against average, including three shutouts.  He started and played every minute of each UAA contest, and added a game winning 'golden goal' during the Eagles' overtime win against Washington University (Mo.).  The co-captain finished the regular season two goals and an assist, while helping Emory record a 0.53 GAA, the 14th-lowest mark in Division III.

Haley aided the Eagles both offensively and defensively during UAA play from the defensive center midfield position, starting all seven UAA contests and finishing tied for the team lead with 18 shots, including six on goal.  He picked up one assist in conference contests, coming on the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over the University of Rochester.  Haley has played in all 18 games this season for Emory, recording two goals and two assists.

Hardington started all seven UAA games, and led all Emory players with eight shots on goal, while tying for the team lead with 18 shots.  The forward is Emory's leading scorer for the season with six goals, and has added on a pair of assists to rank second on the team with 14 points.  Hardington has scored five game-winning goals in 2014, ranking him 20th among all NCAA Division III players.

Andrejchak led all Emory players with six assists during the year, while scoring four goals of his own to total 14 points, tied for second on the team in 2014.  Three of his scores during the year were game winners, the second-most among all Eagles.  The midfielder started all seven UAA games for Emory, taking seven shots, including four on goal.

Hannigan played every minute in goal for the Eagles during their UAA season, finishing the conference schedule with a 0.55 GAA and a .750 save percentage.  He was 3-3-1 in conference games, including three shutouts.  Hannigan ended his regular season ranked 26th in Division III with a 0.565 GAA and 85th with a .815 save percentage for the year.

Rosen, a team co-captain, helped lead an Eagles defense that limited its seven UAA opponents to averages of 10.1 shots and 2.3 shots on goal per game.  Starting all seven UAA contests and playing 622 minute, he added three shots in conference games, a pair of which were on goal.  The center back has started all but one game for the Eagles this season, helping the team shutout nine opponents during the year.

Emory will open NCAA Championship play on Friday evening, hosting Berry College at 6:00 PM at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.
