Men's Soccer to Host Birmingham Southern in Final Non-UAA Matchup

The Emory University men's soccer team returns home on Wednesday night to host the Birmingham Southern College Panthers in the final non-UAA game of the 2015 season. The game is set to kick off at 7:00pm from the Woodruff PE Center.

Emory Eagles Notes & Preview

The Eagles went 0-1-1 over the weekend to fall to 7-4-2 and 2-1-1 in the UAA…Emory currently sits tied for third place with seven points, trailing Brandeis and Washington who both have nine…The Eagles saw their six-game winning streak come to an end last Friday night, losing 2-0 at Case Western Reserve…It was the first time Emory allowed a goal in six contests and snapped Abe Hannigan's career long shutout streak at 517:46 minutes…For the season, Hannigan ranks second in the UAA in wins (7) and tied for first with six shutouts…In Sunday's 1-1 tie with Carnegie Mellon, Matt Sherr gave the Blue and Gold and early lead, heading in a Christian Meyer corner in the 16th minute…It was Sherr's third goal on the season which ranks third on the team behind Sebastian Hardington (5) and Meyer (4)…Hardington has cracked the top 5 in the UAA with 18 shots on goal.

Defensive Honors

The Eagles have seen two players earn UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week honors this season. Matt Sherr is the latest member of the team to earn that distinction on October 11th after Abe Hannigan was selected as the DAOW a week prior on October 4th. Sherr led the Eagles defensive unit in limited the 17th-ranked Washington offense to just six shots total and he assisted on the game-winning goal scored by Christian Meyer in the 81st minute.

Birmingham Southern Panthers Notes & Preview

Birmingham Southern comes to Atlanta with an 11-2-2 overall record and have won their last three games. The Panthers are led offensively by thee players who have found the back of the net three or more times this season. Dallas Coyne tops the team with six goals while Spencer Nichols has added five tallies and Patrick Erickson has registered four. In addition to the trio the Panthers have seen six other players record a goal. Marvin Castellanos is 6-2-2 in 11 games as the starting goalkeeper for BSC and has posted a .792 save percentage on 42 saves to go along with a 0.98 goals against average. Galen Curry has seen action in five games this season and has yet to lose a contest, going 5-0-0 with a 0.22 GAA and a .938 save percentage. The Panthers are led by Preston Goldfarb who is in his 33rd and final season with the team. Goldfarb carries a 363-247-52 during his long career.

All-Time Series Record

Emory leads the all-time series with a record of 6-1 in seven meetings between the two schools. The Eagles have won the last three meetings and are 2-1 all-time against the Panthers at home.

Up Next

The Eagles will be off for eight days until the end of the month when Emory will begin a three game home stand against UAA opponents to close out the season. The home stand begins on October 30th with Brandeis coming to campus. The Eagles will honor their eight seniors with an on-field ceremony prior to the start of the game.
