Men’s Soccer Place Five on All-UAA Team

The Emory University men's soccer team placed five members on the All-UAA team as announced by the association on Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Matt Sherr earned First Team honors while sophomores Christian Meyer and Jason McCartney were named to the Second Team. Seniors Abe Hannigan and Sebastian Hardington were recognized as well, earning Honorable Mention selections.

Sherr makes his third consecutive appearance on the All-UAA First Team after playing all but four minutes during conference play. He tied for the team lead with two goals in UAA action and added an assist for a team-leading five points. Sherr netted the lone goal in Emory's 1-1 tie at Carnegie Mellon and scored the game-winner in the win over Rochester. His assist came on the game-winning goal against then ranked #17 Washington University. He led the defensive unit that ranked tied for 1st in goals allowed (5) and first with a 0.68 GAA. For the season, the Roslyn, NY native was the lone Eagle to start in all 17 contests and he finished with career-bests in goals (4) and points (10) at the center back position. He was named the UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week two times this season and was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District member for the second time in his career.

Meyer had a breakthrough sophomore season to earn his first All-UAA honor. He played in 16 games, making 11 starts and tied for the team lead with five goals and led the squad with 11 points and three game-winning goals, all coming in the 81st minute or later. During UAA play, Meyer started all but one UAA game and recorded one goal, the game-winner against Washington and added an assist in the Eagle's 1-1 tie with Carnegie Mellon. He finished the year with 20 shots with 12 being on goal.

Joining Meyer on the Second Team was McCartney, who also earns his first career All-UAA accolade. McCartney started all but one UAA contest for the Eagles and led the team in shots (7) and SOGs (3) during conference play. The Raleigh, NC native helped the defense to a 0.68 GAA while limiting opponents to 11 shots per game and 3.2 SOG average in UAA action. For the season he finished with two assists, both coming in Emory victories against Berry and Rochester.

Hannigan had a great senior season in goal for the Eagles to earn his third career All-UAA selection. He played all but four minutes during UAA play and ranked second with a 0.68 GAA and made 18 saves for a .783 save percentage. He was 3-3-1 with two shutouts. Hannigan posted six clean sheets during the season to become the all-time leader in school history and had the third longest shutout streak in the history of the program. His record setting performance earned him UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Hardington makes his second straight appearance on the All-UAA team after making the Second Team in 2014. He appeared in four UAA contests, making two starts, and scored the golden goal against Chicago for his lone UAA tally. Hardington found the back of the net five times over the course of the season to tie for the team lead and ranked second with 10 points. He was first on the team with 18 shots on goal and appeared to be on his way to a career scoring year, however a concussion cut his season short.

Emory finished the season 9-6-2 and was 3-3-1 in UAA play. It was the 15th straight year the Eagles had a winning overall record.
