Emory Women’s Tennis Provides Strong Showing on Day 1 of the ITAs

The Emory University women's tennis team looked strong in its season-opening matches at the USTA/ITA South Regional Championships on Friday, as 10 Eagles advanced to Saturday's round of 16 in the singles draw, and four Eagle pairings advanced to the doubles quarterfinals on Saturday.

Leading the advancing Emory singles players was top-seed Gabrielle Clark, along with second-seeded Jordan Wylie and third-seeded Zahra Dawson.  Also advancing for the Eagles were sophomores Brenna Kelly, Malavika Padmanabhan, and Taylor Brandt, along with freshmen Lauren Pinsky, Allie Damico, Danielle Truitt, and Catharine Harris.  Emory players combined to drop just one set during the first day.

Advancing to the quarterfinals were the top-seeded pairing of Clark and Dawson, along with the third seeded duo of Wylie and Kelly.  Padmanabhan and Truitt and Brandt and Pinsky also qualified for tomorrow's doubles quarterfinals.  Emory's pairing of Damico and Harris won their first-round match, but fell in the second round.
