Emory Shuts Out Georgia Perimeter 9-0 on Senior Day

Emory University senior Zahra Dawson moved into sole possession of second-place in singles victories in school history on 'Senior Day' at the Woodruff Physical Education Center, leading the second-ranked to a 9-0 win over Georgia Perimeter College on Thursday.

Dawson won the 83rd singles match of her Emory career, defeating Sadietou Mayou 6-2, 6-0 in second singles.  In the process, she passed former Eagle Jill Tobin (1988-92) for second-place in school history, raising her career mark to 83-36.  She also teamed with Gabrielle Clark to win the first doubles match by an 8-2 score, and her 97 doubles victories place her just seven shy of Mary Ellen Gordon for the most in school history.

Dawson, an all-American all four years of her Emory career, was honored prior to the start of the match as part of the Eagles' annual 'Senior Day' ceremonies.

In other doubles action, Jordan Wylie and Lauren Pinksy claimed an 8-0 win in the second doubles match, and Catharine Harris and Danielle Truitt won 8-2 in third doubles.

Emory continued to roll towards a victory in the singles matches, claiming victories in straight sets in all six contests.  Along with Dawson, Clark claimed a 6-1, 6-3 win in first singles, Brenna Kelly won 7-6 (6), 6-3 in third singles, Pinsky earned a 6-1, 6-0 fourth singles win, Harris claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win fifth singles, and Allie Damico rounded out the match by winning 6-0, 6-1 in sixth singles.

It was the sixth shutout victory of the season for the Eagles, who improved to 13-4 overall with the win.  Georgia Perimeter dropped to 4-4 on the campaign with the loss.

After Emory's match with Clayton State University next week was cancelled earlier in the day, the Eagles will now turn their attention towards the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships in Orlando, Florida from April 27th – 29th.
