#2 Women’s Tennis Advances at UAA Tournament

The nationally second-ranked Emory University women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships with a 9-0 win over New York University on Friday.

Top-seeded Emory will continue its quest for the conference title on Saturday at 1:30 PM, facing nationally 11th-ranked and fourth-seeded Washington University (Mo.), which edged Brandeis University 5-4 in the opening round.  The Bears hold a 14-6 record this season. 

On the other side of the bracket, second-seeded Carnegie Mellon will face third-seeded Chicago in a semifinal match on Saturday.  The winners of the two semifinal contests will play for the conference championship on Sunday at 9:00 AM.

With NYU bringing just four players with them to Altamonte Springs, Florida, the Eagles rolled to a quick victory.  In doubles play, Lauren Pinsky and Jordan Wylie claimed an 8-0 win in the first match, and Allie Damico and Catharine Harris earned an 8-2 victory in second doubles.

In singles play, Pinsky won 6-1, 6-0 in the first singles match, followed by a 6-1, 6-0 win for Harris at second singles.  Damico followed with a 6-0, 6-0 third singles win, and Danielle Truitt rounded out the win for Emory, winning her fourth-singles match 6-2, 4-2 when he opponent retired.

Emory improved to 14-4 on the season with the win, while NYU dropped to 0-10.
