The fourth-ranked Emory University women's tennis team raised its season ledger to 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon with a 8-1 victory over NAIA school Shorter College at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.

The Eagles' strong doubles play continued on Wednesday, with Emory pairing sweeping all three doubles matches for the second-straight contest.  At first doubles, junior Gabrielle Clark and freshman Annette Sullivan earned an 8-5 win over Candice Laurent and Aurelie Gaborit.  Freshmen Stephanie Loutsenko and Emma Taylor battled to an 8-3 victory over Iesha Holton and Sicquena Sinclair at second doubles, while freshmen Madison Gordon and Beatrice Rosen dominated at third doubles with an 8-0 win over Alicia Gallard and Brooke Dowd.

Emory continued to perform well into singles play, earning straight-set wins in five of the six matches.  Clark defeated Laurent 6-2, 6-4 at first singles, while senior Jordan Wylie claimed a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Holton in the second match.  In the fourth singles match, freshman Marissa Levine made her spring debut with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sinclair, while sophomore Catharine Harris topped Gallard 6-3, 6-0 at fifth singles.  Sophomore Danielle Truitt rounded out the Eagles' successful day with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win over Dowd at sixth singles.

The only point dropped by an Eagle on the day came in the third singles match, where Rosen suffered a 6-2, 6-1 setback to Gaborit.

With the loss, Shorter fell to 4-3 for the year.

The Eagles will be back in action next Wednesday, February 27^th, when they will travel to Columbus State University for a 3:30 PM match.
