Emory Women's Tennis Opens Season at Elon Invitational; Defeats Meredith 9-0

The Emory University women's tennis team opened up the fall portion of their season on Friday at the Elon Invitational. The Eagles saw five players advance to the next round in their respective singles flights and three doubles team win at least one match on the day. The Eagles also took part in a dual match in the evening against Meredith College. Emory easily took care of the Avenging Angels by a score of 9-0.

In singles, Bridget Harding knocked off Suzanne Zenoni of Elon 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the quarterfinals in the Phoenix flight. Also advancing to the next round in their respective singles flights were Madison Gordon (4-6, 6-2, 6-2 over Masey DeMoss of UNC-Greensboro), Katarina Su (6-3, 6-1 over NC Central's Jasmine Gabriel), Paula Castro (5-7, 6-1, 6-3 over Paige Christian from Georgia Southern). Daniela Lopez reached the semifinals in the Oak singles flight by defeating Tamara Jeremic of NC Central 6-2, 6-1. Lopez received a bye in the first round due to an odd number of players.

Michelle Satterfield fell in three sets (6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-5) to Teodora Radosavljevic from George Washington in the Maroon singles flight. Beatrice Rosen and Daniella Moreno-Kaste lost to a pair of Western Carolina players in their respective flights while Taylor Cosme was defeated by Liberty's Evangeline Crist 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. Anna Fuhr lost to Ana Ramirez from Richmond in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-4). And lastly, Melissa Goodman fell to the consolation bracket after losing 6-3, 6-2 to Chattanooga's Sydney Patton 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles, Fuhr and Satterfield reached the Maroon doubles flight consolation final by defeating Teodora Radosavljeic and Marie-Louise DeCamps from George Washington 8-3. Harding and Su won their first round matchup, beating a pair from UNC-Asheville 8-5 but were knocked off in the next round by a duo from Wake Forest 8-7 (3). Harding and Su will face a doubles team from George Washington in the third-place game on Sunday. Lopez and Goodman also reached the consolation final in the gold flight, winning 8-3 over Savannah Taranto and Alexa Webb. And in the final doubles flight, Moreno-Kaste and Castro will face Rosen and Gordon in an all Emory final in the oak doubles flight on Sunday. Moreno-Kaste and Castro took care of Amy Ellis and Nancy Bridges from UNC-Greensboro, then advanced to the finals after a pair from Western Carolina retired due to an injury. Rosen and Gordon reached the final by defeating Lynsey Cover and Jeremic from NC Central and then Amalie Davidson and Caroline Sherrer in the semifinals.

In the dual match, all three Eagles doubles pair (Satterfield/Fuhr, Castro/Moreno-Kaste and Rosen/Gordon) won by the score of 6-0.

For singles, Harding won, only dropping one set (6-1, 6-0) and Su earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the number two singles match. Cosme won in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 as did Goodman (6-0, 6-0) and Lopez (6-0, 6-1). Moreno-Kaste rounded out the match in the number six spot, winning the only set 6-0.
