Women's Tennis Continues Play at Elon Invitational

The Emory University women's tennis team continued play at the Elon Invitational on Saturday with several players advancing to the next round in their respective singles flights.

Of those players advancing were Katarina Su, Paula Castro and Daniela Lopez. Su won her first match of the day, defeating Katie Polk of Chattanooga in three sets (7-6 (3), 1-6, 12-10 before falling in the semifinals of the Powell singles flight to Maria Paraja of Elon 2-6, 6-4, 10-8. Castro and Lopez both advanced in the Oak singles flight as Castro knocked off Nadia Hilton from North Carolina A&T fairly easily 6-1, 6-0 and Lopez beat McKenzie Barco from Chattanooga 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 to move onto the championship match of the flight.

Bridget Harding fell in her quarterfinal match in the Phoenix flight to Diana Kussainova from George Washington in three sets 6-4, 1-6, 10-1 and Madison Gordon fell in three sets to Belen Riviera of Liberty 4-6, 6-4, 11-9 in the Gold flight.

On the consolation side of the draws, Michelle Satterfield was defeated by USC Upstate's Carol Sigaki in straight sets 6-2, 7-6 (3) while Beatrice Rosen was victorious over Furman's Blair Martin in a tight three set match (5-7, 7-5, 10-4). Daniella Moreno-Kaste beat NC Central's Mia Ramic in quick fashion 6-3, 6-2 and Taylor Cosme moved onto the semifinals by besting Shannon Bettiol of Western Carolina 6-1, 6-2 in the Acorn flight. Anna Fuhr also moved onto the semifinals of the consolation round in the Powell flight by beating Khalia Powell from North Carolina A&T in three sets 6-3, 1-6, 10-6. And lastly, Melissa Goodman was ousted by UNC-Greensboro's Jamie Grinberg in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.

Play will conclude on Sunday with doubles play being completed first followed by the consolation semifinals and then the main draw finals. Due to time constraints the consolation finals will not be played.
