Women's Tennis Wraps Up Play at Elon

The Emory University women's tennis team wrapped up play at the Elon Fall Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

On the afternoon for the Eagles, Paula Castro reached the finals in the Oak singles flight winning her semifinals match in three sets 5-7, 7-6, 10-8. She was paired up with teammate Daniela Lopez in the Oak main draw final but the two did not compete against one another.

In other action, Taylor Cosme reached the consolation finals of the Acorn flight, knocking off Taylor Nederlander of George Washington 6-1, 6-2. Also reaching a consolation final was Anna Fuhr as she moved on by default over NC Central's Jamie Rogers. The two Eagles did not play in the finals due to time constraints. Daniella Moreno-Kaste fell in her match by a score of 2-6, 6-2, 10-6. And Beatrice Rosen rounded out singles competition for Emory as she fell to Chattanooga's Alison Storie 6-0, 2-6, 10-8.

In doubles, Fuhr and Michelle Satterfield defeated Kuse/Salas from Richmond 8-5 in the Maroon consolation final. Bridget Harding and Katarina Su teamed up to win the third place match in the Phoenix doubles flight, winning 8-2 over GWU's Nederlander/Kussainova. Lopez and Melissa Goodman squared off against Mary Smith and Paige Christian in the Gold consolation final but were ousted 8-7 (8-6). Daniella Moreno-Kaste and Castro reached the Oak doubles main draw final and matched up against teammates Rosen and Madison Gordon but the two pairs did not play.

Several Eagles played extra matches on the day against Western Carolina members. Castro was victorious 8-6 as was Fuhr, 6-3, 6-2. Gordon and Satterfield each won as well with Gordon winning 8-4 and Satterfield besting her opponent 8-6. Su fell to Nicole Nielly by a score of 8-3 and Lopez lost in a tiebreaker 8-7 (3).

Emory also played two extra doubles matches with Moreno-Kaste and Castro beating a pair from Georgia Southern handily 8-2 and Harding and Gordon beat a twosome from WCU 8-4.

The Eagles will return to action in a few weeks to participate in the ITA Regionals which will take place from October 2-4 in Murfreesboro, TN.
